NEW YORK — Services for Stiles Fleming Tobias, 94, former chairman of Woolrich Inc., Woolrich, Pa., were held April 5 at Lock Haven, Pa.
Tobias died April 3 of natural causes at Jersey Shore Hospital, Jersey Shore, Pa., according to a daughter, Nancy Millen.
Tobias, who was the oldest living graduate of the Philadelphia College of Textiles & Sciences, joined Woolrich in 1920 as a trainee in the sales department. He became vice president in 1963, then chairman in 1973, a post he held until his retirement in 1976.
Tobias’s father, the late Ellery Channing Tobias, had served as president and chairman of Woolrich from the mid-Forties until his death in 1960.
In addition to Millen, Tobias is survived by another daughter, Eleanor Gardner; a son, James, who recently retired from Woolrich after 33 years as a sales representative; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. One grandson, also named Ellery Channing Tobias, is currently serving as a sales representative for Woolrich in New York State.
