NEW YORK — Isaac Mizrahi has entered a license agreement with The Fashion House Inc., Los Angeles, to manufacture and distribute two footwear collections under the designer’s name.

The collections will be the bridge Isaac Isaac Mizrahi, which The Fashion House is taking over from GFW Group here, and a new high-end shoe line called Isaac Mizrahi, which company executives refer to as the “couture” line.

“I look at it as a way to expand my shoe business,” Mizrahi said. “It’s a broader spectrum of merchandise, which makes me excited. There will be two collections, with a more diverse number of factories involved. They can make a flip-flop if I wanted it.”

The move signals another stage in Mizrahi’s comeback. Since closing his designer ready-to-wear business in 1998, Mizrahi has been plotting his return stage by stage, launching a clothing collection for mass retailer Target and a custom line for Bergdorf Goodman in 2003. Last year, he became the host of the “Isaac” show on the Style Network and has been getting both praise and criticism for his role as a commentator on the red-carpet circuit for the E! network.

“I used to make couture shoes and did well when I first started, which led to Isaac,” Mizrahi said. “Now that I am making couture clothes, the customer ought to have the option of buying the expensive dress with expensive shoes.”

The Isaac Isaac Mizrahi footwear collection, which retails from $200 to $300, is available at Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus catalogue and The Fashion House will unveil its first Isaac Isaac Mizrahi collection at the Fashion Footwear Association of New York show in June.

The Isaac Mizrahi collection will be more upscale, with suggested retail prices starting at $500. The new line targets high-end department and specialty stores, and is slated to launch for spring 2007.

“I always love the high and the low,” Mizrahi said. “I love that it’s democratic…that a little cheap shoe could be as gorgeous as an expensive one and vice versa.”

The Fashion House also makes licensed footwear for Oscar by Oscar de la Renta, O Oscar, Blass Bill Blass, Bill Blass Couture, Richard Tyler Couture and Tyler. Richard Tyler.

“We share the goal of making fashion fun and approachable for all women and know that we will be a successful team,” said John Hanna, president and chief executive officer of The Fashion House.

Mizrahi added that he sees “eye to eye” with The Fashion House “in terms of the way to build a business, in terms of making shoes available at different price points.”
