NEW YORK — From light and feminine to twisted and Victorian, this resort season has it all, including plenty of relatively simple, understated looks. Donna Karan relaxed with wrapped, tied and pleated evening gowns and shirtdresses, all done with an effortless appeal, whereas Derek Lam eschewed the typical resort flou in favor of Victorian-inspired long and lean silhouettes as in his Swiss dot chiffon top and floor-sweeping Chantilly lace skirt. Meanwhile, Nina Ricci designer Lars Nilsson, inspired by painters Sigmar Polke and James Tissot, worked chiffons and lace into a feminine collection of swimsuits and gowns. And, after a two-year hiatus, the design team at Jil Sander relaunched resort with crisp, ruffled tuxedo shirts and pretty shift dresses.
