NEW YORK — Marc Jacobs is continuing his ongoing ode to grunge with his Marc by Marc Jacobs collection for resort, but this time around, he opted for more subtle layering with lighter-weight fabrics in muted colors. He also introduced a Twenties-inspired dropped-waist dress — a new shape that will be carried over into his spring 2007 lineup. Other key items were slouchy pants, rounded-sleeve jackets and long skirts. Meanwhile, Anna Sui served up plenty of her signature quirky prints and patterns. There were polkadot party frocks, mixed-motif dresses and eyelet coats, all providing just the right balance of bohemian flair for the season. Tia Cibani, the creative director for Ports 1961, carried over the soft, neutral palette that she showed for fall, but added lots of green this time. The designer said she was inspired by the Southern belle “in her big move to the city,” which meant jackets and tops with sweet bows, bubble skirts and ruffled coats.
