NEW YORK — Every girl knows that the perfect vacation requires the right wardrobe. And there are plenty of choices this cruise season. At Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld worked in black and white with a few splashes of color, showing cropped tuxedo jackets worn with long skirts, flirty chiffon dresses, slim jumpsuits and a few shiny pink or purple raincoats with camellias replacing epaulettes. Meanwhile, Alberta Ferretti is going for romance, shortening whispery caftan and bias-cut looks and adding handkerchief hemlines and deep necklines. She also uses such feminine materials as ribbons, embroideries and sheer fabrics.
For his part, Milan Vukmirovic, creative director of Jil Sander, is presenting the house’s first cruise collection ever. “I wanted it to be easy, colorful and fresh,” he said. There are lots of sporty shapes — zipped nylon jackets, cropped wide pants and dresses and tops with twisted necklines. He uses a palette of poppy oranges and pinks mixed in with neutrals.
