Butch vs. Babe: It was all over Europe, and it’s hot here too.

Preppy: Schoolgirls, Fair Isles, argyles, tartans and kilts.

Lingerie: It’s still around, under big coats and sweaters.

Knits: In all shapes and sizes, from burly cardigans to delicate twinsets.

Rubber: Usually in neon shades, as well as black, silver or pale yellow.

The little suit: It’s back with a vengeance, usually with A-line skirts.

Dresses: Yes, they’re really back — A-line, Empire or princess shapes.

Coats: The best in years, from peajackets and long redingotes to great shearlings.

Mad mixing: The zanier the better.

Vinyl: The shine is back, sometimes mixed with fuzzy or furry.

The new black: Brown and gray were everywhere.
