Auckland, New Zealand, is famous for its “four seasons in a day” weather, even when that season happens to be spring. The city has been living up to its rep starting with New Zealand Fashion Week in late September in the old America’s Cup boat sheds down on the Viaduct Harbour. Sunny one minute and pouring the next was the way one visiting designer described the days. A few blocks uptown from the show venues, the Vulcan Lane precinct is the city’s year-round indie fashion hub, lined with boutiques, pubs, noodle bars, hipsters and hordes of Asian students. They’re covering up in trench and duffle coats and leather bomber jackets — the last seen on almost every corner, usually teamed with skinny jeans or opaque black tights, Ugg boots, sneakers and supersized scarves.
