GLAMOUR, CHANEL TEAM UP: Arm in arm with Chanel, Glamour magazine will stroll into the Golden Globes after party at Trader Vic’s in the Beverly Hilton this Sunday night. Four “Glamour Girls” dressed in black Chanel cocktail dresses will saunter among the A-list crowd, offering a host of Chanel beauty products such as Extracils, a curling and lengthening mascara; scents in fragrance roller balls; Hydrabase and Infrarouge lipsticks, and Infrarouge nail colour kits. There also will be Glamour mints to keep breath sweet. Expected guests at the Miramax/Glamour-sponsored soiree include new Chanel spokeswoman Nicole Kidman, Jude Law, Renée Zellweger and Uma Thurman — all actors appearing in Miramax flicks.
Also at the after party, with support from several beauty firms, Glamour is reprising its Glamour Beauty Bar, a beauty buffet setup in the event’s rest room area. And, for the first time, men will be treated to a Beauty Bar, too. The ladies’ area will be staffed with two makeup artists prepared to do makeovers to light touch-ups.
BOOTS LAYOFFS AMID GAINS: Buoyed by a 5.2 percent sales rise in the third quarter ended Dec. 31, Boots Group plc is pushing forward with its Getting in Shape cost-saving program. In a trading statement released last week, the U.K.-based retailer said it plans to cut prices at its health and beauty stores and extend their hours. Boots also plans to slash 900 jobs from its Nottingham, England, head office during the next six months. “Boots operates in an extremely competitive environment where the pace of decision-making and speed of implementation is integral to success,” said Boots’ chief executive Richard Baker. “The proposed changes would reduce complexity and costs of head office functions, which improves our ability to compete.” Big sellers in the quarter included Christmas beauty gifts and over-the-counter medicines, Boots said.
