GLOBAL GLITTER: Diamonds dominate this week’s pre-Golden Globes events, starting with a joint Frédéric Fekkai-H. Stern luncheon at Fekkai’s Rodeo Drive salon today. The annual awards show is Monday.
The glam brands have joined to create Frédéric Fekkai by H. Stern, a diamond jewelry collection inspired by the movement, texture and color of hair, which will debut this week. Also today, the Platinum Guild again takes over Rodeo Drive’s Luxe hotel with its suite, offering an $800,000, 18.75-carat yellow diamond ring to the first celebrity borrower who shows up.
On Thursday, the Diamond Information Center and In Style host their annual Beverly Hills Hotel luncheon and fashion show, where jewelers court actresses over steamed vegetables and sorbet. A more select group, the 10 lead actress nominees in the film categories, will receive a Cathy Waterman for L’Oréal Paris gold and diamond compact worth $3,500.
And for those looking for a more casual dose of bling, upstart jeans company Denim for Immortality has designed a $1,250 pair of jeans embellished with a diamond button by jewelry Sol Raphael, which will be part of the official Globes’ presenters’ gift baskets. Raphael will also hawk its wares in HBO’s Luxury Lounge at the Peninsula Hotel, one of several pre-show pampering suites around town, including Glamour magazine’s at the Chateau Marmont.
GETTING FRESH: Six years after exiting the junior business, Fresh Jive Manufacturing is back courting the ladies.
The Los Angeles-based streetwear company said that this fall it will launch a 24-piece collection consisting solely of tops, such as a military jacket with a camouflage print formed by olive-tinted palm trees and a red satin bomber with a quilted chest panel and big logo appliqué on the front.
Bill Hebner, operations manager at Fresh Jive, said the company decided to revive the junior business based on requests from distributors and retailers, who offered opinions on preliminary designs for the women’s styles. Fresh Jive will unveil the junior line today at the Pitti trade show in Florence. Wholesale prices range from $12 to $15 for Ts, $28 to $48 for fleece and $50 to $60 for jackets. Although declining to forecast first-year sales for the junior line, Hebner said Fresh Jive could add bottoms to the line next year if demand grows. “The look is definitely a tomboy-based streetwear line,” he said.
