NEW YORK — Wolford, the Austrian legwear and bodywear manufacturer, will unveil Tuesday its first seamless pantyhose at Italia Moda, the annual televised fashion show in Rome. The company has tapped Grace Jones to wear the new hosiery, called Fatal, at the prestigious event on the Spanish Steps.

Wolford’s research team spent more than two years working on Fatal, according to Russell J. Klein, president of Easton International Inc., the exclusive U.S. distributor for Wolford. The style has a sewn-on waistband, but eliminates the seams that are usually found on the front or back of the panty, he said, thus eliminating lines on clothing and skin.

As with other Wolford hosiery products, Fatal features Lycra spandex in every course and also is soaked in lanolin for softness, Klein said.

Fatal will wholesale for $20 a pair and will be available in three colors: black, cosmetic; a nude tone, and cocoa. In the spring, Fatal will also be available in admiral — or navy — and nearly black.

As of Aug. 15, the new legwear will be available here on a limited basis at the Wolford boutique on Madison Avenue, at Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman, Klein said. It will be distributed to specialty stores nationwide in October, Klein added.
