Brian Wolk and Claude Morais dubbed their first Wolk Morais collection, which debuted Monday night at Kohn Gallery in Hollywood, “La New Look.” The resort 2016 lineup comprised 25 styles inspired by the Cool School minimalist painter movement and the California girl’s nonchalant approach to dressing up.
Demure A-line minidresses, skirt suits and gowns popped in vivid color hues and a playful emergency broadcast screen print. Cut in silk crepe, silk twill and cotton cashmere twill, the pieces exuded a youthful ease appropriate for the pre-seasons in which the designers plan to show the line.
“There’s a certain cultural consciousness in Los Angeles right now and when we moved here, we had a wonderful awakening,” said Wolk, who with Morais has designed the Ruffian collection for the past decade. “L.A. is the land of fantasy and it works for us.”
