Italian Knowhow: Aerin Lauder is bringing some Italian soul to the soles of her namesake brand.
For the first time, Lauder will produce a portion of her footwear line in Italy, due out for spring. “Artisans create these sandals using the same techniques they have implemented for centuries — I appreciate that their traditions have been passed down from generation to generation,” said Lauder. The limited-edition, premium “Capri Collection,” will consist of nine T-strap sandal styles, and will retail for $398 — considerably higher than her current footwear offerings that are priced in the $200-range and largely manufactured in China. Lauder sees the artisanal collection as an opportunity to reach a new consumer base. “I think that it will appeal to both new and existing customers alike; the detailing and aesthetic are signature Aerin, but our hope is reach the consumer who might typically be shopping for sandals from other high-end brands,” she said.
