Ahalife is a global online marketplace for curated luxury lifestyle products. The site represents more than 3,000 handpicked designers and artisans from 45 countries. Its 449,000-plus customers purchase items directly from the artisans using a drop-ship approach, with no inventory risk for the company. Bezar, which began operations in March 2015, itself has hosted accessories and other products on its site from thousands of designers and creative entrepreneurs.
Bradford Shellhammer, founder and chief executive officer at Bezar, said his firm has been eyeing ways in which it can work together with Ahalife, and began to formalize the combination of the two businesses this past summer. “With this merger, we’re able to further support our mutual vision of building the leading global online marketplace for curated products,” he said. Shellhammer was the founder of flash sale site Fab.com, which was later sold to PCH International.
Ahalife founder and president Sachin Devand said, “The joining of our two marketplaces makes perfect sense and cements our position as the number-one online marketplace for luxury designers,” adding that the acquisition is fully aligned with its growth and expansion strategy for 2016.
Shellhammer will become an adviser to the combined company, and key members of the Bezar team will join Ahalife in its New York headquarters.
