“I wanted to say thanks, for all the love I’m receiving,” Alber Elbaz replied by text message when asked why he launched an official account.
Previously, he had been standoffish with the popular social media, only recently telling cofounder Kevin Systrom jokingly: “I don’t do Instagram because I don’t have ‘photogenic’ friends — only good friends. And I don’t take pictures of food; I prefer to eat.”
But in his inaugural post, he said the outpouring of support he’s gotten since being pushed out of Lanvin after 14 years with the company encouraged him to let loose with emotion — and emojis.
“Instagram is a beautiful way to communicate and share love. I love you all back,” he wrote, adding: “Huge hugs and big thanks to all of you around the world for showing me so much love.”
The designer was welcomed to the platform by Instagram’s Eva Chen who posted a photo with the caption: “Let’s give a warm Instagram welcome to the legendary Alber Elbaz! He just joined @instagram and has his fish/gape duck face ready!! Follow him @alberelbaz8!!”
