Alber Elbaz at Parsons

FEET FIRST: Alber Elbaz, who helped popularize luxury sneakers during his tenure at Lanvin, has a new project afoot — a collaboration with Converse, WWD has learned.

Word has it Elbaz has designed a sneaker for the Nike-owned brand in Japan. It is understood the style will be unveiled early in the New Year.

Since being ousted from Lanvin in October 2015, Elbaz has kept himself in the fashion spotlight with a flurry of speaking engagements; a limited-edition makeup line called Hypnôse Show done in partnership with Lancôme; a collaboration with French perfumer Frédéric Malle, and recognition from the French government, which decorated him as a Commander of the Legion of Honor during the last Paris Fashion Week.

During his 14 years at the helm of Lanvin, his upscale versions of old-school sneakers landed on the feet of famous women like Michelle Obama, and kick-started a boom in athletic style footwear for men.
