Revolve Clothing continues to spin its web in the online fashion space with model-designer Alessandra Ambrosio. The two have linked to create the Ale by Alessandra x Revolve collection, which launches for holiday 2016 exclusively on the retailer’s web site on Wednesday. The 24-piece collection ranges from $138 to $268 retail.
Ambrosio launched her Alé by Alessandra brand four years ago, selling bohemian beach-chic dresses and separates exclusively at Los Angeles-based retail chain Planet Blue. Three seasons ago, she launched swimwear with Los Angeles swim manufacturer Lunada Bay, as well as beach hats and bags. With the Revolve line, Ambrosio is dressing things up a bit, including a faux-fur and full-length dress in the mix.
“I’ve always been a fan of shopping on Revolve, so when they approached me, I decided to do my version of beach and city girls. I have some colorful pieces you can use for going out or events, and others that are more daytime comfy,” said Ambrosio, who has become a favorite among the photographers who troll Malibu and the tony beachside towns for celebrity street style photos. She’s also a regular at the Coachella music festival and attended Desert Trip at the same venue this past weekend. She’s used her Coachella sojourns to promote her line and has attended her share of Revolve events in the desert.
“We’ve known Alessandra for a while and she really represents what we’re all about, that young, arty, beautiful working mom with that vacationlike lifestyle. We know our customer aspires to that,” said Revolve cofounder Michael Mente of the yearlong collaboration, which he noted could easily continue further, although he declined to give sales projections. “A year is good because we get to explore all the seasons and understand what sells.”
Ambrosio calls all her lines “an extension of my modeling work” as well as the embodiment of her #foreveronvacation hashtag. “Being from Brazil, the whole year long I am wearing summer pieces and I go towards whatever has to do with the sun.” The Maldives inspired this collection, so Ambrosio took the opportunity to shoot the campaigns for her collections there last month.
As with her swimwear, the line is full of boho details such as fringe, lace-up fronts and sexy pieces such as bodysuits and split-sleeve dresses. Ambrosio also made sure the line was an easy purchase for online shoppers. “Revolve knows their customer. With fit you have to go more towards the center with pieces that stretch or can be worn loose or adjusted. You want to make sure nobody is going to have to send it back.”
The line will also begin selling in other retailers for Spring 2017. Next for Ambrosio is another category for Ale by Alessandra and prepping for the next Victoria’s Secret fashion show, her 16th.
