BITING THE BULLET: British designer Amanda Wakeley is adding a collection of handbags to her label’s lineup this month. The designer’s five new handbag styles — called The Bullet Collection — debuted on Wakeley’s spring runway in September, and will launch at the designer’s Mayfair store and on her Web site, today. The collection takes its name from the designs’ cylindrical, bullet–inspired palladium silver and rose gold hardware, which appear on the bags’ clasps and handles. And in keeping with the bullet theme, each handbag is named after men whom Wakeley called “famous gunslingers.” Among them are the Newman, a roomy tote bag; the Beatty, a boxy clutch bag in either python or crocodile, and the Redford, a shoulder bag with a chain handle. Prices for the line start at 695 pounds, or $1,152 for the Jackson leather shoulder bag and run to 2,895, or $4,800 for an Eastwood tote in leather and python. Wakeley noted that the handbag collection will continue to “evolve, with new styles added every season in line with the inspiration of the ready-to-wear collection.” And to mark the collection’s launch, Wakeley will release a short film inspired by the designs this week.
