American Ballet Theater’s Roberto Bolle Hosts Gala in New York

In attendance were notables including Toni Collette, Trudie Styler, Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin, Marina Abramovic, Michael Stipe and Natalia Quintavalle.

BOLLE’S BALLET: American Ballet Theater principal Roberto Bolle hosted a gala with Italian lifestyle brand Acqua di Parma for an evening of dance Tuesday called “Roberto Bolle and Friends,” which featured an all-star lineup of international dancers performing solo and pas de deux dances that ranged from the traditional, such as “Excelsior,” an Italian classic that had not been performed in New York for more than 100 years, to “Le Grand Pas de Deux,” which featured a male and a female dancer performing a classic ballet duet but “spoofing” on it with comedic gestures. The choreography of Twyla Tharp showed up in a duet that featured a ballet danced to four of Frank Sinatra’s most famous songs, including “My Way “ and “Strangers in the Night,” perhaps in a further nod to celebrate Italian culture, which has been ongoing throughout 2013. In attendance at the City Center venue were notables such as Toni Collette, Trudie Styler, Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin, artist Marina Abramovic, Michael Stipe and Natalia Quintavalle, who were shuttled immediately following the dance to a private dinner at the Metropolitan Club.
