AMERICAN ANTHEM: “It was a beautiful surprise,” Angela Missoni declared with a big smile, on a high after American First Lady Michelle Obama donned a Missoni knit dress during her visit in Milan last week. “It’s a beautiful thing, it’s the first time she has been photographed wearing a dress from an Italian brand,” added Missoni ahead of her men’s show Sunday.

The designer said Obama’s stylist had chosen a few looks about a month ago, but that she did “not know for sure” that one would be chosen, and underscored that the First Lady paid for the design. Incidentally, the dress retails at 1,260 euros, or $1,430 at current exchange rate.

On a separate note, Emilio Carbonera attended his first show as the brand’s new general manager. The executive, who succeeds Alberto Piantoni, has previously worked for Caruso, Salvatore Ferragamo and The Marzotto Group.
