BOUND FOR AMERICA: British men’s wear brand Aquascutum has signed a licensing deal with the Canadian firm Jaytex to distribute the main collection, 1851 London, in the U.S. and Canada. “This partnership marks the start of an exciting journey in an emerging market for the brand,” said Mark Taylor, chief operating officer of Aquascutum, which is already stocked at Barneys New York in the U.S. and Harry Rosen in Canada. “Demand for our product is already there, and we’re in talks with major luxury retailers in the U.S.”
The Jaytex Group, which works with brands including Kenneth Cole and Ben Sherman, will oversee wholesale and retail distribution, and plans to open stand-alone Aquascutum stores in Canada in the next two to three years. Taylor said the U.S. is the brand’s third biggest market after the U.K. and Japan in terms of online traffic. The U.S. is also the highest grossing market outside the U.K. In March 2013, the company put in place a three-year strategy with a focus on building Aquascutum’s presence both in the U.K. and across international markets.
