Florence-based luxury footwear label Aquazzura is gunning to open its first free-standing store in Asia later this year in Hong Kong, said Edgardo Osorio, the brand’s cofounder and creative director.
“Hong Kong is a window to Asia and I really feel like it’s a great place to start [further Asian expansion for the brand],” he said at a cocktail at Lane Crawford’s IFC store to fete the launch of his brand’s special capsule collection by Poppy Delevingne.
Although he declined to give a sales figure, he said the footwear brand is doing “amazingly” in Asia.
“We keep expanding and the stores keep selling out so it’s only good news,” he said.
Osorio and Delevingne mingled with some of Hong Kong’s most fashionable shoppers at IFC before heading off to similar events at the retailer’s Shanghai and Chengdu locations.
Delevingne said she was thrilled to finally make it to Hong Kong where her best friend lives — but she expressed dismay at the fact she was only in town for 17 hours. Luckily, her friend made it up to her.
“She left a note in my hotel bedroom when I arrived, saying: ‘Eight years too late’ with a big unicorn balloon,” Delevingne said. “She knows I love unicorns.”
