ART APPRECIATION: Forget an e-vite. For her spring runway show, Tanya Taylor decided to go in a much more personal direction. On Tuesday afternoon, invitees received their own Tanya Taylor original in the form of a mini, hand-painted canvas. “It was 600 canvases on a Sunday afternoon,” the designer explained. “It was myself and two other team members. We thought it would take two days, but it only took four hours. It was probably the most fun Sunday I’ve had in a long time.”

Taylor went on to describe how the unique invite reflects her upcoming collection. “A lot of the prints in the collection are hand-painted, so it just made sense to continue that into the invitation itself,” Taylor said. “I love the idea that this is a piece from our office and that we actually had our hands on it.”

Of course, as with any art experiment, end results were varied.

“We started off really ambitiously, and most of the canvases were covered in paint,” the designer said. “Then we realized they look more beautiful when there was more white showing, so we had some duds. They were not the cutest.”
