THREE EASY PIECES: Denise Focil, the Los Angeles-based designer of AS by DF — a contemporary collection best known for its leather jackets — has just wrapped her first collaboration. After connecting with Louise Roe through mutual friends, Focil found that the two shared similar ideas about style and what a woman needs in her closet. Focil and Roe wanted to design a few looks that were versatile and accessible for the woman on the go. “[Louise and I] immediately clicked, and we talked for hours about everything, even though we only designed three pieces together,” Focil said. “She was really hands-on.” The limited-edition collection, due out this spring, will comprise three items: a cognac suede vest with back embroidery, an off-the-shoulder chambray dress with an attached suede fringed belt, and a blush silk camisole with eyelash lace detailing, all with a subtle Seventies vibe.
Roe, a British-born TV personality who is based in L.A., also appears in the collection’s campaign. “To see the garments come to life and get to style them myself for the campaign was amazing,” Roe said. “I wanted to blend my own sense of style with the brand’s longstanding aesthetic…and it was important for me to feel that the collection was cohesive. Chic, elegant, but cool and laid-back, too. You wouldn’t wear the pieces together, but they all compliment each other in your closet.” Roe — who just finished a book tour in Australia of her style guide, “Front Roe” — said she’s busy renovating her new house in L.A.
The Louise Roe for AS by DF collection, which ranges from $143 for the silk camisole to $475 for the suede vest, will be available in specialty stores nationwide as well as on asbydf.com this March.
