NEW FOOTING: Italian shoe firm Baldinini is set to open bricks-and-mortar shops Stateside. The brand — which has operated a U.S. wholesale business for five years — plans to open an initial five freestanding U.S. retail units in the next two years.
Stores will be located in New York, New Jersey and Florida. The first will open at the Roosevelt Field Mall in August. Shortly thereafter, stores at the Short Hills Mall in New Jersey, and the Brickell City Center in Miami will begin operation.
Gimmi Baldinini, president and chief executive officer of Baldinini, said, “The U.S. is a key growth market for our business. We currently generate five percent of our turnover in the United States and we aim to achieve 20 percent through this retail expansion, which will require time and major investments to implement the best strategy. We’re also studying the setting-up of a U.S. branch, which would be directly managed by the Italian company.”
Baldinini said it produces 400,000 pairs of shoes a year. With the addition of the U.S. units, the firm will operate a total of 150 retail units worldwide.
