MAKING WAVES: The British heritage label Barbour is collaborating with Japanese label White Mountaineering, which is known for rugged, design-led outerwear. The men’s collection will launch for spring 2015, and designs include a raglan-sleeve blouson, a take on Barbour’s waxed cotton jacket, and a shorts and jacket combo done in a print that recalls Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai’s famed Great Wave woodblock print, but is based on England’s North Sea, where the Barbour label is based.

Yosuke Aizawa, the founder and designer of White Mountaineering, said “my first memory of Barbour is when as a child, my father and I wore oiled jackets to go fly fishing. I am so delighted to have the opportunity to bring a new vision of Barbour by linking those memories I had as a child with my present self.”

The collection follows on from a collaboration Barbour did in Japan with White Mountaineering for fall 2014, through the label’s Japanese distributor.

Prices for the collection will run from 59.95, or $102, for a T-shirt to 549 pounds, or $931, for a parka. The collection with White Mountaineering follows recent Barbour collaborations with firms as diverse as Pantone, Bella Freud Australian street label Francis Leon.
