The retailer has confirmed that it will carry Kanye West x Adidas Originals Yeezy Season 1, the rapper’s collaboration with Adidas that debuted to strong reviews during New York Fashion Week. “The product is right for the moment,” said Tom Kalenderian, executive vice president and general merchandise manager of men’s for Barneys. He said the line will be “launched as a collection,” and will include footwear and bags in addition to apparel. It will be housed on the eighth floor of the Madison Avenue flagship and also be carried in all branches and on the Web site.
Since the order was just written, Barneys has yet to work out whether West will be involved in marketing the line when it hits stores later this year. “We’re trying to flesh the details out now,” Kalenderian said.
Liad Krispin, senior director of Adidas trend and influencer marketing, said, “Kanye West is involved in every facet of the collection from its initial concept through to design to the way it is marketed. At this stage, it is too early to share how the collection will be fully presented at retail, but our discussions with him are ongoing and well under way.” He declined to provide details on what other retailers will carry the collection.
