BENETTON PARTNERS WITH U.N.: Last week, Benetton Group agreed it would contribute to the Rana Plaza Donors Trust Fund, set up to assist victims of the disastrous garment factory collapse in Bangladesh in 2013, and now, the Italian fashion company is taking further steps to support textile workers.
In April, Benetton will unveil a new program in partnership with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women). The goal is to “concretely strengthen the role of women in the textile production chain” by ensuring that they earn a living wage, according to a statement from the company, which also noted that the initiative will focus specifically on women because “they represent over 80 percent of the global textile/fashion supply chain workforce.”
