TOPS IN DALLAS: Binzario Couture clinched the Rising Star Award for fashion Tuesday at a runway show and cocktail party organized by Fashion Group International of Dallas and sponsored by Galleria Dallas. Binzario designers Andre Yabin and Luis Nazario were heralded for their feminine eveningwear detailed with beading and embroidery. The pair started their custom dressmaking business in 2007.

The other nominees were Esé Azénabor, who makes colorful caftans and embellished party frocks, and Charles Smith II, who offers minimalist urban sportswear for men and women under the label Smith II.

FGI Dallas also spotlighted Allison Mitchell with the Rising Star Award for accessories. Mitchell is known for oversize foldover clutches made of calf hair in rich hues. The other accessories nominees were fashion jeweler Taylor Miller and Jeremy Calhoun, who won the People’s Choice Award for his creative bow ties in a pay-for-play poll. Proceeds from that vote and the event will benefit FGI Dallas’ scholarship fund.

The organization presented Rising Star Awards in four additional categories, honoring Jason Fitzgerald for fashion photography, Shane Monden for makeup artistry, James “JT” Turner for interior design, and La Toya Jones for art.

The presentation opened with a show of spring fashions from Galleria tenants Wrangler, Club Monaco, Bebe, Express, BCBGeneration and Banana Republic.
