LOST IN TRANSLATION?: A Toronto-based company, Fashion Company Ltd., has ruffled the feathers of the Fédération Française de la Couture du Prêt-à-Porter des Couturiers et des Créateurs de Mode, the official organizers of Paris Fashion Week. On Friday, the federation released a statement accusing the company of posing as a Paris Fashion Week organizer, offering designers slots on the federation’s official 2012 show calendars for an “exorbitant” price. Reached by e-mail, Jean Guehennec, public relations manager for Fashion Company Ltd., contested the claim, saying that firm is developing a new Paris fashion event planned to launch in August 2012. “We never offered anyone the opportunity to join (the federation’s calendar) as we are (not) in any way connected with that event,” she said. The federation maintains it is the sole decision maker when it comes to selecting designers for Paris’ official show schedules. Designers invited to become members have to pay a fee of 340 euros, or $450 at current exchange rates.
