Marc Newson British Fashion Awards

NEWSON NEWS: The British Fashion Council and Swarovski have commissioned Marc Newson to design the Fashion Awards trophy for its annual event that will take place at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Dec. 5.

Taking his cue from crystal shapes and rock formations, Newson has created a bespoke design for the event. The awards were manufactured at the Austrian company’s headquarters in Wattens.

Newson said the Austrian crystals gave the awards a “striking visual effect, created from the reflections of each individual trophy, when set together.”

The London-based designer has created a range of furniture, objects, cars, bicycles and other commissions. His work has been featured in the Museum of Modern Art, London’s Design Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Nadja Swarovski, member of the Swarovski executive board, called Newson’s concept “a fitting tribute to the global creative talent we are celebrating this year.”

This upcoming edition of the awards ceremony will also serve as a platform to raise money for the British Fashion Council Education Foundation charity, which provides scholarships to students.

Jonathan Anderson of J.W. Anderson and Loewe has been nominated in four of the nine categories for the event. Other nominees include Christopher Bailey of Burberry and Alessandro Michele and Marco Bizzarri of Gucci. The awards have a far more global reach this year, with new “international” categories, including business leader, urban luxury brand, accessories designer, ready to wear designer and model.
