BUDDY SYSTEM: Details of the collaboration between Opening Ceremony and Brussels-based Thierry Boutemy, the florist to fashion’s inner circle (Givenchy, Lanvin, Dries Van Noten), have emerged. Turns out the project is a series ménage a trois of sorts between OC, Boutemy and Le Labo, New Era, Vans and Manolo Blahnik, respectively. Launching June 16 at Opening Ceremony stores and online at openingceremony.us, the collaboration spans ready-to-wear, accessories and fragrance.
Fashionwise the project resulted in a series of photographic prints based on images of smashed and decayed floral designs by Boutemy that appear on OC clothes, Blahnik shoes, classic slip-on Vans and New Era hats. There are also Tabio socks and Chukka boots. Since flowers also smell nice, a fragrance was a no-brainer. Thus, the limited-edition Geranium 30, done with Le Labo. The scent, which will retail for $240, was created by perfumer Barnabé Fillion and is “a precarious balance of flowers and spices, creating the permanent feeling of walking in a perfectly arranged mad and wild garden,” according to a press release.
“We’ve been following Thierry’s work for some time now and have been in awe of his incredible talent, especially the lavishly designed arrangements in [Sofia Coppola’s] ‘Marie Antoinette,’ said Opening Ceremony’s Humberto Leon. “There’s no one who captures the essence and spirit of flowers as Thierry does, and we are excited to be partnering with him for his first fashion collection.”
