BUILDING BRIDGES: Like many designers, Reem Acra knows the ins and outs of Lincoln Center. But Wednesday night, she will be the guest of honor there at Bridges of Understanding’s annual awards dinner. Council of Fashion Designers of America’s chief executive officer Steven Kolb will present the Building Bridges Award to Acra at the event, which is being cochaired by Cathie Black and Tom Harvey at the Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse. This will mark the first time the event will be held in New York.

BOU aims to help bridge the cultural divide between Americans and the Arab world by providing educational initiatives that pair high school classrooms in the U.S. with their peers in the Middle East through a videoconferencing-based curriculum. The money raised will be used in part to introduce BOU’s educational programs to New York.

As a tribute to Acra, the awards dinner will include the premiere of Arab-American playwright Heather Raffo’s “9 Parts of Desire” featuring Syrian opera singer Lubana Al Quntar.
