LEFT TO WONDER: Insiders at Burch Creative Capital said Sunday that a recent BuzzFeed report claiming C. Wonder will close up to 20 of its 32 locations by Jan. 1 is off-base. One source, who declined to be identified, said the Chris Burch-led brand will continue to run freestanding stores though not pinpointing how many. The staffer did confirm C. Wonder’s plans to get into wholesale. Launched in 2011, C. Wonder first bowed with a colorful SoHo shop that was meant to relay a sense of whimsy and a cheerful vibe.

With 36 active investments, Burch’s diverse portfolio includes BaubleBar, Trademark, Five Below and Solid & Striped as well as nonfashion companies.

C. Wonder executives are said to be mapping out a new strategy that will be unveiled in early to mid-December.

As of Sunday, the company would only say, “As a start-up business, we continue to look at ways to enhance our business model and in that regard we are committed to being an omni channel company pursuing retail, wholesale, e-commerce and international opportunities. At this time. We are rationalizing our store fleet and will be focusing on our most profitable stores.”
