BARGAIN HUNTERS: A vast majority of French women — 80 percent — plan to shop during the sales period this winter season.

That number is up 6 percentage points compared with the first batch of results released in June by the Observatoire du prêt-à-porter (or Observatory for ready-to-wear),which was created by French fashion chain Camaïeu in association with market research company Odoxa.

French women will spend an average of 214 euros, or $235 at current exchange, on ready-to-wear items this winter. And 60 percent of them said they will shop both online and in stores, the survey revealed.

“The new results reinforce the multichannel [strategy] as the key growth driver, which is in line with Camaïeu’s development strategy,” stated Elisabeth Cunin, Camaïeu chief executive officer.

Value for money was the number-one reason to buy, according to the 1,002 women surveyed online between Nov. 25 and 27.

Camaïeu is owned by private equity firm Cinven, which, as reported, said on Monday that it has agreed to acquire British footwear company and retailer Kurt Geiger.
