CAN DO: Canstruction, a design competition showcasing creations made from donated cans of food, has gotten a shot of fashion this year. Two participants, Arup and Kohn Pederson Fox, stacked up Goya green beans or other canned goods to make replicas of Alexander McQueen-type shoes favored by the likes of Lady Gaga. Thorton Thomasetti built what looks like a Converse high-top out of sardine tins and other. These and other entries are on view at the World Financial center through Monday. The 100,000-plus cans used for the sculptures, as well as however many are collected through a food drive, will be donated to local programs through City Harvest in time for Thanksgiving. Founded by the Society for Design Administration, Canstruction® is held in more than 100 cities around the globe.
