A CHARMED LIFE: “Feng Shui Chic” author Carole Shashona is all about alternative interior design, and now she has a few new outlets to channel all that positive energy between her fans’ homes and bodies. A stylist for Ileana Douglas and Julie Chen, Shashona is now selling a collection of signature bracelets with handmade charms through her Web site and Barneys New York plans to introduce her candles this winter. Sheryl Crow has been spotted wearing Shashona’s Chi-Oms – bracelets for the less feng shui savvy – and Susan Sarandon is a fan of the home accessories, which include door guardians. Shashona also will have a new gig on Beverly Johnson’s show “Full House.” (She also continues to serve as a fashion consultant on CBS’ “The Talk.)
Drawing from the 6,000-year-old principles of feng shui and traditional Chinese medicine blended with interior design principles, the Los Angelean aims to turn a home into a wellness center through color, scent and alignment of physical objects. During a recent interview, she noted that body, mind and spirit are often linked but until now the home has been the missing link. NewAge-y as this might sound, Shashona selected the Dragon, the Buddha, the Fish and her signature Turtle Charm to focus on different areas of the home and heart that she said can provide pivotal change and empowerment. In the home, for example, door guardians are designed to open up targeted rooms to expanded horizons. The chi-om, when worn on the body is meant to be a “portable energizer,” and the turtle is ideal for urbanites who tend to carry their lives on their backs, she said.
