CAROLINA BY THE BAY: “It’s so very Carolina — luxurious and chic and discreetly understated,” said Denise Hale, admiring the vibrant decor as she arrived for the frenetic opening night party for CH Carolina Herrera on Grant Avenue in San Francisco on Thursday night.
“I’ve known Carolina [Herrera] since she was 15, and the collections are true to her always-classic style,” added Hale, dressed in Ralph Rucci (and a peek of Uniqlo).
Herrera, who was in town for the evening with her daughter Patricia Lansing, stopped to pose with all her Instagramming fans beside handsome marble-topped tables, leather sofas, and bronze and dark ash wood shelves. Above, the white plaster ceilings were discreetly ornamented with the CH monogram.
Olivia Palermo, OJ Shansby, Carolyn Chang, Erin Glenn and Sally Debenham, a longtime friend of the Herrera family, drifted through the 4,520-square-foot, three-story-tall store.
“We wanted to showcase versatile fashions, timeless favorites with a twist,” said Herrera, who said that this summer she would be spending time exploring Dresden (“porcelains and palaces”) and visiting friends in Rome.
Joe Zee, who on June 2 starts his new post as editor in chief of the new Yahoo Fashion magazine, spent the evening praising the Web site’s chief executive officer Marissa Mayer.
“I love Marissa’s vision, and risk-taking,” said Zee. “She’s very forward-thinking. I want to deliver compelling fashion stories, images, videos, news, always with an authentic voice.”
Just as Herrera’s car arrived to whisk her away to dinner, Mayer strolled over from her nearby downtown penthouse. Herrera insisted on showing Mayer every floor, and they leaped into the elevator.
“Thank you so much for the tour,” said Mayer, wearing a Carolina Herrera New York fitted cocktail dress in lemon chiffon with delicate silver beading. “It’s beautiful.”
