TAKE THREE: This year’s 1,600 outgoing seniors at the Fashion Institute of Technology will be getting their money’s worth at their May 23 graduation. Not one but three speakers will clue them in to the fashion industry. After receiving the President’s Award for Lifetime Achievement, Fern Mallis will be the keynote speaker but Rebecca Minkoff and Dennis Basso will also be having their say. Basso will receive an honorary degree from FIT, more than 40 years after he picked up his own diploma from the school. On Wednesday the designer was busy drafting a speech for the ceremony, which will be held at the Jacob K. Javits Center North. But it wasn’t as if he didn’t have more pressing things to do. Basso is also gearing up to show his first resort collection next month in his Madison Avenue store.
In addition, the designer has once again signed up Coco Rocha for his fall ad campaign, who will again be photographed by Bernard Hunt working with stylist Lori Goldstein. This time around Basso plans to draw inspiration from three American style icons — Gloria Guinness, Babe Paley and CZ Guest.
