CLEAR VISION: The Council of Fashion Designers of America will hold its first eyewear showcase at its New York headquarters on Nov. 19. The inaugural initiative is meant to serve as a group press day for nine of the council’s 40-some eyewear-focused members.

Participants include Barton Perreira’s Patty Perreira; Blake Kuwahara, Christian Roth; L.A. Eyeworks’ Gai Gherardi; Leisure Society’s Shane Baum; Morgenthal Frederics’ Jeff Press; Oliver Peoples’ Larry Leight; Robert Marc, and Selima Optique’s Selima Salaun.

CFDA chief executive officer Steven Kolb says that the event “is overall part of what [we] have been emphasizing — more service to our members through showcases and open houses.”

“It’s really about a group coming together and being strong in numbers as opposed to each of them individually marching on their own,” he added.

The organization hosted the second iteration of its member jewelry showcase last month for the same purpose. In a similar vein, the CFDA will host a Specialty Studio & Product Development Atelier as part of its Fashion Manufacturing Initiative fund, on Nov. 17. The event will showcase seven FMI grant recipients — specialty production artisans based in New York — and invite brand production managers to inquire about, and perhaps commission, their services.
