BLOCK PARTY: “I thought this was a swimwear event,” Rachel Johnson, former editor of British socialite publication, The Lady, said of her Sunday night getup of cut-off shorts and flip flops, “It’s Sunday night — I’m not going to dress up.”

This very glamorous swimwear event was staged by brand and talent agent Charles Finch to re-launch his beachwear label, Chucs, showcase its Acapulco-inspired spring-summer 2015 collection, and launch the new Chucs Bar and Grill next door to Finch’s boutique on swanky Dover Street.

The collection itself, on show in the Philip Mould Gallery across the road, spanned polo shirts, jaunty scarves, straw panama hats and swim shorts emblazoned with prints translated from vintage neckties. “I grew up in the Caribbean,” proffered Finch, explaining that the line harks back to colonial times “when men dressed well for travel.”

Guests included Condé Nast International honcho Jonathan Newhouse, Amanda Eliasch and model Laura Bailey. “Charles is a really old friend,” confided Bailey, “and we’ve had many adventures together from Positano to Harbour Island. A walk around the block with Charles is an adventure.”
