Windy City Arts: On the heels of a creative brainstorming session this fall that featured the Creatures of the Wind designers as guest panelists, the City of Chicago has unveiled the launch of a mega-arts summit in the spring. Entitled “Lake FX Summit and Expo,” the summit will target not only new and established fashion designers, but all creative professions in the city —culinary, film, art and music. The inaugural four-day summit will be held April 16 to 19 and events will be centered at the Cultural Center and at venues in the city’s Loop. Tonya Gross, director of fashion, culinary and design at the city’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, said the upcoming event furthers the notion of developing a centralized fashion industry in Chicago. “It’s a call to action for fashion stakeholders, those operating creative businesses from emerging to established,” Gross said. “Lake FX will offer think-tanks, business development workshops and networking.” The conference is free and workshops might include topics like how to launch a business, boost sales and create a Web site. Guest speakers confirmed include members of The Second City, Sire Records founder Seymour Stein and Rochelle Trotter, widow of renowned chef Charlie Trotter. The city is working on bringing in some well-known fashion designers to participate.
