IN CONTRAST: Austrian designer Roshi Porkar was brought to Berlin by Mercedes-Benz and Elle after she won the Chloé prize at the Hyères fashion festival for her Spring 2015 collection. “4000-year-old statuettes” were the inspiration, but the oversize, faux fur coats which appeared on the runway were brought up to date and “broken up” by panels of azure gauze.

“I’m not opposed to real fur, I just wanted to experiment with different fabrics,” the young Austrian explained. The designer was overwhelmed by the presence of actress Tilda Swinton and designer Haider Ackermann on her front row in Berlin: “They came backstage to tell me how much they liked the show — it was amazing!” Despite the strong start, Porkar, a former Lanvin employee, is not sure she will continue with her label yet. “I’m not sure — I think I might want to go back to working for someone else.”
