SERPENTINE’S SUMMER SOIREE: British designer Christopher Kane will play host at the Serpentine Gallery’s annual summer party, which starts Thursday night in London. Held within the Gallery grounds at Kensington Gardens, the fundraiser will feature Spanish architects José Selgas and Lucía Cano’s multicolored translucent installation for the Serpentine’s 15th annual Pavilion.
Cohosts of the evening include Michael Bloomberg, Alexa Chung and architect Zaha Hadid. Guests will be treated to games within the colorful structure, along with a performance by British band Spandau Ballet and musician James Righton, and 2manyDJs will be hitting the decks that night. The party, which commemorates the 15th anniversary of the Pavilion Commission — launched by gallery director Julia Peyton-Jones — will raise funds for the gallery exhibitions and commissions program.
“I have admired the Serpentine and its amazing work and reputation for many years now and have always loved going to the summer party,” said Kane. “We have always used bold colors in our collections, so I’m very much looking forward to seeing SelgasCano’s colorful and vibrant vision of the pavilion and to see it represented on such a vast scale.”
