CHU’S NEW ROLE: David Chu has been named chief executive officer of Georg Jensen, the Copenhagen-based luxury silver, jewelry and watch design company.

Chu, who made his mark as the founder of Nautica and had also been chief creative officer for Tumi, had previously served as co-chairman of the board and chief creative officer of the Scandinavian brand. He will continue to serve on the board and will retain his chief creative officer role, overseeing the design direction and strategy for all products.

“It is an honor to lead this company,” Chu said. “I have great respect for its more-than-100-year-long tradition of excellence in design and craftsmanship and look forward to creating new collaborations with designers and artists. My goal is to bring Georg Jensen to the design-conscious community all over the world.”

Chu teamed up with Investcorp in late 2012 to acquire the Georg Jensen brand for $140 million from private equity group Axcel Capital Partners.

Founded in 1904, Georg Jensen has had collaborations with 20th-century artists and designers including Henning Koppel, Johan Rohde and Arne Jacobsen.
