A new double-C is about to descend on fashion: Coach and Colette are to link on a multifaceted partnership. On Monday, a kid’s capsule collection — a collaborative effort between Coach creative director Stuart Vevers and Colette cofounder Sarah Andelman — will launch at the Paris specialty store on Rue Saint-Honoré.
On Oct. 25, Andelman will bring Colette Stateside with a takeover of Coach’s SoHo concept store, at 143 Prince Street. There, she will build out the space in the aesthetic vein of the famous Parisian shop, with blue couches and a contemporary finish. The Coach capsule will be sold, in addition to signature Colette-type ephemera.
The capsule prominently features Coach’s cartoon insignia, Rexy the dinosaur. Eight ready-to-wear pieces including a varsity jacket, sweaters, pants, a dress and a sweatshirt will range in price from $95 to $200. A special-edition Rexy handbag will sell for $450.
The SoHo boutique will also stock more than 30 Colette-chosen items, including toys, temporary tattoos, bubbles and art supplies, all of which will range in price from $2 for a pencil to $200 for a Fuji Instax camera.
“We have been with Colette since my first collection with Coach, and we have done loads of special launches, exclusive product — we’ve had so much fun working together. I have always worked with Sarah to make all the things we do special and unique, and this is really taking it to the natural next stage,” Vevers said of the tie-up.
“I proposed to do a capsule collection for kids — it’s the first time Coach has designed something [all-encompassing] for kids. We always try to have interesting collections and it was the perfect opportunity to do a shop in New York just before Halloween. We hope kids and parents will come and see the collection, it’s very cute,” Andelman said.
Vevers was clear to state: “It’s children’s, which I think makes it really fun but by no means is this a prelude to a [permanent] kids’ collection for Coach. It’s a limited-edition project, which I think makes it even more interesting.”
Colette last orchestrated a pop-up in Manhattan in a 2008 partnership with Gap, at that retailer’s Fifth Avenue flagship.
The Colette and Coach pop-up will remain open for one week, through Nov. 1. “It’s more about something fun for kids, not pretentious,” Andelman said.
To mark the New York launch, Colette and Coach will host a Halloween event at the Museum of Natural History on Oct. 25, with production devised by over-the-top maestro Alexandre de Betak.
