DEMOCRACY IN ACTION: Italian department store Coin is set to add a new chapter to its “Democratic Wear” project started in 2010. The company teamed up with Napapijiri, the sportswear brand owned by Greensboro, N.C.-based powerhouse VF Corp., to launch a limited edition down jacket that will be sold at a special price of 10 euros, or $14 at current exchange rate, in Coin boutiques across Italy on Nov.26. Milan’s main Coin store located in Piazza V Giornate will host a special event with a DJ set, starting from 11 a.m. Part of the proceeds from sales will be donated to the Italian branch of Green Cross, the nonprofit organization founded by Mikhail Gorbachev to promote sustainable development.
Coin and Napapijiri will benefit the “Inizia da te” [“Start from you”] contest aimed at Italian students, who are asked to submit stories, pictures, videos and songs related to environmental themes. Winners will receive 1,000 euros, or $1415, to realize eco-friendly initiatives in their schools and towns. Coin previously collaborated with G-Star and Eastpak.
