Maxwell N. Burnstein, a mixed-media artist whose work fuses the worlds of photography and fashion through collage techniques, is gearing up to stage his first exhibition in Asia at the W Retreat Koh Samui in Thailand.

Burnstein, an artist “In Residence” for W Hotels, will travel to the resort over the Christmas period to host an opening reception for the exhibition on Dec. 23 and remain on site through Dec. 28. He will also talk at a seminar. The exhibition, which features 14 works, runs January through June.

“The modern and masculine expression of male dress is stripped away through analog collage techniques to reveal the textures of Thailand in the artworks’ layers,” said the Toronto-based artist, who worked with photographer Charl Marais.

Burnstein’s work has appeared in Harper’s Bazaar and several international editions of Elle. He has also worked with Perry Ellis, Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana.
