COUNTERFEIT BATTLE: The Salvatore Ferragamo Group is taking an aggressive stand against counterfeit merchandise, especially on the Web. The Italian fashion company said it regularly monitors 33 international e-commerce platforms, and has blocked 345 illegal sites in recent months, in addition to recovering 95 domains that made improper use of the Ferragamo brand name. Visitors to these pages are now automatically alerted to the hoax and redirected to the real company homepage and authorized sales channels.

On the legal front, a New York Southern District Court judge recently awarded the luxury brand $4 million in damages in a civil lawsuit against 15 defendants who were using a combined total of 95 fake domain names to sell counterfeit Ferragamo goods.

“We have also recently begun taking action in China, where we have already won a civil case against a high-end hotel whose store sold counterfeit products,” said Ferragamo Group chairman Ferruccio Ferragamo, noting the company had already won 10 criminal cases there and successfully pulled 15 thousand fake products from the market.
