Cuba: Fashion’s Next Vacation Destination

It didn’t take long after U.S. travel restrictions to Cuba were relaxed for the fashion world to start taking advantage. Trina Turk and husband Jonathan Skow, Proenza Schouler’s Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, as well as Kyle Hotchkiss Carone and a bevy of socialites have all recently visited the island. “I met the oldest living Proenza,” recalls Hernandez (it’s his mother’s maiden name). “I tried to tell him what I do, and he was like, ‘Is that like Zara?’” Adds Carone: “I think the fashion community always wants to be the first to find references in places like Cuba, before the rest of the world shows up.”
