DARLING DAVID: David Beckham, who has been voted by People magazine as “the sexiest man alive,” was as surprised as anyone by the accolade.
“I thought I was past my sell by date,” Beckham wrote on Instagram. “But thanks to @PeopleMag for the accolade and the compliment! I always feel a little shy when receiving these awards, though it will make my Mum happy. This one the kids will laugh at, as they see what Daddy looks like in the morning.”
Beckham will appear on the Nov. 30 cover of the special double issue of the celebrity publication.
The world’s sexiest man is also a family man. Beckham recently took part in a UNICEF charity football game at Old Trafford stadium in Manchester, U.K., with his son Brooklyn. The duo played for Great Britain against Rest of the World, a team made up of other nations’ players. At the start of the game he walked onto the pitch with all of his children — Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper.
Earlier this year he made his movie debut in a short film for Belstaff with Harvey Keitel, which was released in September following the brand’s show. “Outlaws” was filmed in Mexico and produced by Liv Tyler. Beckham plays a motorcycle daredevil who gets mixed up with a crowd of circus performers and their taskmaster, played by Keitel.
“I was very nervous at first,” said Beckham, who went on to describe how Keitel put him at ease. “I was waiting in my trailer on the first day when I got a bunch of lilies with a note from Harvey saying, ‘It takes a man to give another man flowers.’”
Most importantly, Beckham is beginning to build his own brand in the fashion world. In September he revealed an exclusive, five-year agreement with the Kent & Curwen brand under which he will play a multifaceted role in expanding the British brand’s appeal to younger consumers. The agreement was the first deal for Seven Global, the joint venture between Beckham and his partner Simon Fuller with Global Brands Group Holding Ltd. Beckham and Fuller are 50-50 partners with GBG.
